Dedicated to Father Patrick McGrath
Contributor, The Gift of Sports

Father Patrick McGrath from Limerick, Ireland had planned on being one of the contributors autographing books at today’s event. A life-long friend and mentor to Cynthia Brian, the Reverend McGrath believed in the dignity of the human person and worked diligently throughout his life to care, share, and be fair. He was a fierce proponent for the rights of women and children and constantly spoke about the importance of family. He is known as The Gift of Celebration in the first book in the Be the Star You Are!® series, and penned The Gift of Sports for Be the Star You Are!® for TEENS. Father Pat died on July 12, 2009 and is remembered today for his unwavering dedication and support of Be the Star You Are!® charity.

A Message from Founder/Executive Director, Cynthia Brian

What a joy and a relief it was to celebrate the 10^th anniversary of the founding of Be the Star You Are!® charity on Sunday, September 13 with so many of our friends and our supporters! Thank you so much to all of you who joined us on this special anniversary. Had I had a crystal ball back in 1999 to foresee how challenging it would be to manage a non profit corporation solely with volunteers and donation dollars, I know I would not have taken the first step in creating Be the Star You Are!® charity. Thank goodness that I am not clairvoyant.  I am a huge believer in being different, thinking outside the box, and valuing our individuality. In founding Be the Star You Are!®, my goal has been to provide encouragement, opportunity, and direction to women, families, and youth through increasing literacy, decreasing violence, providing positive media choices, and enhancing quality of life.  Mentoring the volunteers with whom I have the privilege to interact is a priority as here at Be the Star You Are!®, we don’t only rescue books and save trees, we grow people. 

Thank you to all the adult and teen volunteers who are the life-blood of this organization for your dedication and determination to make a difference.  My gratitude to the many talented writers who contributed to our second book in the Be the Star You Are!® series, Be the Star You Are!® for TEENS.  This book will change lives, one page at a time. My gratitude to the sponsors, partners, donors, friends, family, and fans who have made today possible.  Thank you all for your support. Please continue to contribute and help us help others as we move forward with confidence into the future of volunteerism.  You are gifts. You are all STARS in my book.
