Be the Star You Are!™ is a library of books and other media donated to youth at risk to raise their skills and self esteem to improve their daily lives. This media ranges from education and advisement to inspiration and guidance which covers every aspect of life from abuse through money management. Be the Star You Are!™ has no religious or political agendas or affiliations as it caters to the literate and illiterate by providing audio tapes and videos as well as books to give these kids a head start in their lives so they can beat the odds.

THE
FOUR CONDITIONS OF SELF ESTEEM, SELF CONFIDENCE, AND SELF WORTH

As
we end 2003 and start making resolutions for 2004, we can all choose to
include heavy doses of self-worth, self-confidence, and self-esteem in our
daily lives. When we believe we
are valuable and talented, we can offer these gifts to others.
Self esteem, self confidence, and self worth are achieved when four
critical factors are present in a person’s life. These four elements are a feeling of being unique, knowing
that there are role models to emulate, believing in personal power and a
feeling of being connected to others.
Let’s
take a closer look at each component to find the ingredients for true
self-value:
1.
Uniqueness:
*knowing that there is something special about oneself
*an ability to express oneself
*respecting oneself as an individual
*enjoying being different without hurting others
*an awareness of the uniqueness of others
*an awareness that others regard me as special
*feeling that I know things or can do things that others can’t
2.
Role Models
*knowing people worth emulating
*having a sense of order
*being able to make sense out of chaos
*knowing the standards of performance by which we are
evaluated
*knowing where we are going and working towards a goal
*believing in core values
*confidently distinguishing between good and evil
*not being intimidated by new things
*measured risk taking
3.
Personal Power
*believing that I achieve whatever I believe in and work for
*knowing that I can handle the stresses of life
*knowing that help is always available
*responsibility to fulfill obligations to oneself and others
*looking at problems as challenges and finding solutions
*being able to utilize personal skills without apologies
*believing that I am in charge of my own life
* choice is always an option
*being able to say “NO” and mean it
*saying “Yes” to living

Connection to the world
*being part of a community
*relating to people, places, and things
*identifying with a group
*feeling of belonging and importance within the world
*connecting with my heritage
*knowing that one person does make a difference
When
we believe in ourselves, trust our intuition, work towards our goals and never
give up, we can succeed.
As
you go out into the day today remember that
no one has ever walked this earth with your exact combination of inborn
and acquired strengths, weaknesses, skills, talents, frailties, and
experiences. You are one of a
kind, you are you, you have the power to love yourself and become the person
you want to be. Become the star of your own life.
You already are a STAR.* Take a look in the mirror and admire
yourself...you are a wonder of creation.
My
aim is to encourage, inspire, inform, and motivate.
Cherish the past, dream of the future and celebrate each moment of your
life.
May
you have a blessed holiday with family, friends, and all those you love.

Here is a convenient tax-effective strategy for supporting Be the Star You Are!™:
Use a Charitable Gift account through a brokerage firm such as Charles Schwab, or Fidelity. Here's how it works:Contact the brokerage firm of your choice and ask about their Charitable Giving Account. Each firm has a special name for their charity account but they are basically set up the same as an independent, nonprofit charity, earning the donor immediate tax deductions. Choose the investment pool you are interested in such as growth index, balanced index or gift preservation where the assets appreciate tax free.
Advise the fund that you want to nominate Be the Star You Are!™ as the beneficiary of your contribution. The fund then ensures that the charity is registered as an IRS-qualified non-profit organization (which we are). Once that process is complete, the fund sends the charity a check. Donors can remain anonymous, or the fund will provide their names to us. Donors can also ask the fund to direct their grant towards a particular project or division of our charity. For example, if you wanted to fund our radio program, you could direct your dollars to go to that endeavor, or if you wanted to fund the distribution of books. Fund donors benefit by the ability to give more with contributions growing tax-free, so you have more money to grant. Your contributions to the charitable gift account are tax deductible in the year you make them. You also pay no capital-gains tax on appreciated securities that you donate to a charitable gift account and you also reduce the amount of holdings in your estate as money in a gift account is not part of your estate, therefore your heirs won't have to pay tax on it.
