Sharing the wisdom!

Our good friends in New York, Judith and Jim, authors of The New Intimacy and hosts of the radio show of the same name have been kind enough to give Be the Star You Are!™ promotions in their weekly e-zines.  Jim and Judith have been guests on our radio program twice in the past year and they are very dedicated to helping individuals have meaningful relationships and have positive lives.  This is an except from their latest e-zine:
"Genuine love is always a two-way dance, an ongoing collaboration in consideration for yourself and for the other person. If you are feeling victimized in your relationship, please look to see how you are allowing it. If you feel you are being falsely accused of being the "cause" of all the problems, please notice how you've allowed that idea to develop.  It's never too late to change how the two of you express your power with and care for one another. Just be sure you see that you both share the power, no matter how you use it or what it looks like on the surface. Please use it well and in the service of connection, understanding and respectful caring of yourself and one another. "

Another great person we want you to know about is Paul Sladkus of GoodnewsBroadcast Corporation in New York. With his two decades of experience in producing award-winning television shows, Paul has developed a new slant in broadcasting and seeks only the positive messages in the world.  His web site, http://www.goodnewsbroadcast.com showcases celebrities and ordinary people who are making a difference in our world by caring.  He is promoting Be the Star You Are!™ and is interested in interviewing individuals who have good news to share. Visit the web site, and perhaps you'll be chosen to tell your positive story.

Last month we told you about a "must have" book for your library called Reel Spirit by Raymond Teague. Raymond was interviewed on our radio program and discussed the merits of numerous movies that offer great family entertainment and life lessons.  The publisher, Unity House, has telephoned and they are sending us 5000 books for children as a donation to our library. http://www.unityhouse.com.  We are very excited about this incoming donation.

The winning entry will get a 5 minute interview on our radio program, Starstyle™ Be the Star You Are!™  That's a $600 prize!  So be creative!  Remember we are about positive programming and helping others to live their dream.

Beneficiaries of Be the Star You Are!™

Simple Stress Relief by Cynthia Brian

In today's hectic society, stress is the buzzword around the water cooler at work and the washing machine at home.  Our cell phones are ringing, pagers are beeping, and our computers tell us we have mail. Work is piling up, traffic is jammed, and we're late for every date. Our lives are so out of balance we can't even say the word "relax."

What can we do that is simple and realistic in a busy schedule?  Here are a couple of simple tips that can help you feel more in-tune with your inner spirit.

1. Try deep breathing.  Breathe deeply from your diaphragm without moving your chest and shoulders.  You can do deep breathing anywhere and it really takes away the stress quickly.

2. Get some aerobic exercise.  Choose something you enjoy like walking, biking, swimming, dancing and have fun with it at least three times a week.  Park your car a few blocks away and walk to your destination.  If your shoes are comfortable, you'll feel better when you arrive!

3. Watch what you eat.  Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and avoid excessive alcoholic beverages.  Don't binge and don't deprive yourself when you are craving something.  Enjoy your food, but use moderation.

4. Sleep more.  Americans are sleep deprived.  At the turn of the century, the average American slept 9.5 hours.  One hundred years later, people are sleeping 6.5 hours.  Humans need approximately 8 hours of sleep to function at full potential.  Take a nap, if necessary, but sleep more.

5. Set reasonable goals. No one is super person, so be realistic with what you can accomplish in one day.  Write your goals in the order of importance and make a decision to do something everyday towards achieving your goals.  Don't try to do everything all at once.

6. Schedule creative time.  Take time to think.  Go into the garden, sit on a bench in the park, watch the waves roll in at the beach, or take a shower, but give yourself thinking time.  Everybody gets better ideas when they are in a state of relaxation.  Watch a sunset and drink a glass of lemonade.  That does it for me every time!

7. Treat Yourself.  Applaud yourself and splurge a little from time to time.  It could be allowing yourself some time alone to listen to favorite music or buying yourself a bouquet of flowers.  The important thing is to remember that you are the most important person in your life.

8. Don't worry, be happy.  Worry is a waste of time.  If you must occupy yourself with worrisome thoughts, set a time limit and only worry for 5 minutes.  Then let it go.  Try laughing more.  It takes more muscles to frown than to smile.

9. Let go.  The world goes on whether you are here or not.  Decide to be present in the moment and enjoy yourself.  Turn off the phones, beepers, computers, and all the other distractions and run barefoot in the grass.  Today is the only day you have.  The past is gone, tomorrow never arrives.  Breathe!

All my best,

Be the Star You Are!™ non profit self- help positive programming media library is pleased to announce the current beneficiaries of our resources. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are requesting that each recipient of this newsletter send us a donation of $10 and ask their friends to do the same. Of course, if you can offer more, we appreciate it greatly.  In the past months we have been working diligently with all volunteers on a shoestring budget, but we need a minimum of $35,000 to continue our good deeds through the end of the year.  Our bank account is at an all time low as we had to buy computer equipment and office supplies to do our work.  If every person who receives this letter would take the time to send us $10 or more, we would be able to survive the winter.  Think about making a donation today.  PO Box 376, Moraga, Ca. 94556.  All donations are tax deductible.

In order to make a difference in communities, our country, and our world, we need your support.  Financial contributions assist Be the Star You Are!™ in its mission to provide, promote, and distribute positive message programming to groups in need of hope, inspiration, and tools for daily living.

SHARING YOUR WEALTH

Here is a convenient, tax-effective strategy for supporting Be the Star You Are!™:

Use a Charitable Gift account through a brokerage firm such as Charles Schwab, or Fidelity.  Here's how it works:

Advise the fund that you want to nominate Be the Star You Are!™ as the beneficiary of your contribution.  The fund then ensures that the charity is registered as an IRS-qualified non-profit organization (which we are).  Once that process is complete, the fund sends the charity a check.  Donors can remain anonymous, or the fund will provide their names to us.  Donors can also ask the fund to direct their grant towards a particular project or division of our charity.  For example, if you wanted to fund our radio program, you could direct your dollars to go to that endeavor, or you could choose to fund the distribution of books, etc.

Fund donors benefit by the ability to give more with contributions growing tax-free, so you have more money to grant.  If you are in the 39.6% tax bracket, a $10,000 contribution costs you only $6,040 after taxes.  In the 36% and 31% brackets, a donor would pay $6,400 and $6,900 respectively for that same post-tax donation.  Your contributions to the charitable gift account are tax deductible in the year you make them.  You also pay no capital gains tax on appreciated securities that you donate to a charitable gift account, and you also reduce the amount of holdings in your estate as money in a gift account are not part of your estate.  Therefore, your heirs won't have to pay tax on them.  For more information about charitable gift accounts, call our office at 877-944-STAR, or call your favorite broker.  Charles Schwab is 800-746-2160 and Fidelity is 800-544-7272.

Be the Star You Are!™ 501(c)(3) is a volunteer self help media library.

Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers and to you, our outstanding supporters around the world.  We value you and couldn't do what we do without you.  Please tell a friend about us and have them tell a friend.
