HITTING THE BOOKSHELVES
Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul is now available in all the bookstores and on line.  These 101 stories to sow the seeds of love, hope and laughter were compiled by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Cynthia Brian, Cindy Buck, Marion Owen, Pat Stone, and Carol Sturgulewski. 

The book is not only a great gift for gardener's, but for anyone who likes to connect to the outdoors and to one another. The exciting news for our charity is that a portion of the proceeds benefit Be the Star You Are!™ You also have the option of buying an autographed copy directly from our offices by sending a check or using your credit card. (The charity gets a bigger donation when you buy directly from the charity.) SUPERSTARS SPOTLIGHT

Philanthropist: Sara La France is once again to be congratulated for making a donation to the charity to help facilitate our grants.  We certainly appreciate it when we get repeat contributions.  Thank you Sara! 

Authors:  Two Superstar awards this month in our Author division.

Wayne Dyer donated several of his books, Wisdom of the Ages.  If you haven't read this book, it is one of the classics.  Many thanks to Wayne for his generosity.

SHARING THE WISDOM!

In December on our radio program, Starstyle™Be the Star You Are!™ , Cynthia Brian provided our audience with a special program dedicated to teenagers.  Dr. Phil McGraw filled in for his son, Jay, who was in the middle of college finals and discussed Jay's best seller, Life Strategies for Teens.   Dr. Phil was extremely interested in the works of our charity and expressed his desire to be part of the upcoming Teen Symposium and Media Fair that Be the Star You Are!™ is planning for next year.  He asked to share the information with his good friend, Oprah, so we are certain we will be hearing more from "Dr. Tell it like it is" very soon.  We'll keep you posted and we appreciate that he recognized our contribution to our communities.

HOW TO LIVE HAPPILY

Daily, remind yourself of the basic laws of life, and practice them. If you will memorize these 12 simple rules or Dynamic Principles they will GIVE you the power to achieve luck, love, joy, wealth and power. REPEAT these 12 laws to yourself frequently, whenever you think of NEEDING THE POWER they give. Gradually, you will ACCURATELY IDENTIFY moments of LOSING THE POWER and catch yourself when you're irritated, out of control, thinking negative thoughts about you and your doings and in general, courting failure. GETTING POWER is like Mozart practicing PIANO to one day, be Mozart. Love those daily scales, those five finger exercises as they give you the power! Soon you'll be able to make life into a symphony.

Reach Out Reading Program:

The Be the Star You Are!™ "Reach-Out Reading" Program has begun. Pat Hallberg, one of our very talented thespians, has organized our reading and literacy program with volunteers Sheri Minch, Sheila Morrison and Melissa Ma who have signed on as readers for three months. They have been participating in the Reach Out and Read programs of Children's Hospital.  They read books to children and make sure the child goes home with a book of his/her own.  Doctors are also given new books to give to their patients. If you would like to volunteer your time for an hour a week or an hour a month, contact our office at 877-944-STAR. Volunteers take books from our library into assisted living residences, hospitals, senior housing, shelters, and children's groups  to read appropriate stories for about one hour.  We believe that positive stories can change lives and we want to do our part in improving literacy in our country. Starstyle™Be the Star You Are!™ has been bringing you a star studded line-up every week on our upbeat positive radio program airing Sundays from 4-5pm on Business Radio 1220 and streamed live on the web from our web site as well as http://www.businessradio1220.com.  Our new format includes three exciting guests every week.  Some of our recent guests have included:

Lisa Mattioli and Michael Christman (Founder, OPTS Events) are working on the National Youth Symposium, Media Fair, and Positive Film Festival.  This is the event that sparked Dr. Phil McGraw's interest. It is going to take a substantial budget to present this symposium in a very incredible fashion. We are seeking major corporate sponsorships and partners for this event. Contact our office. Sheila Morrison, one of our showbusiness stars, is working on a theatre evening to benefit the charity that will include meeting the stars and celebrating. TJ Van Buren is planning a spring golf tournament on our behalf.  If you are someone who enjoys the outdoors and likes to play golf and win prizes, give TJ a call at 415-243-4128 and get signed up.  Of course you can always call the office, too.

Michele Philip and other volunteers are arranging bowling and skating parties with proceeds going to the charity. If you own or manage a bowling alley or skating rink and would like to host a Be the Star You Are!™ Day, especially on a monthly basis, please call Michele at 925-376-7126.

SPECIAL EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT:

On March 10 and 11 the Our Voice Foundation launches a nationwide celebration of its first annual Amazing Woman's Day, a day on which the consciousness of women shifts toward their strength, a day she reflects upon her ability, and a future filled with possibilities. This is her day, a day she honors herself!  Cities included in the celebration are: Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Denver, Boston, Lansing and Tucson.   Two-day special events are filled with an engaging collection of activities, demonstrations and workshops as well as inspiring tools to assist women in their own personal vision building. Our Voice Foundation has chosen 7 females from across the country to represent the voices of amazing women.  Our Founder, Cynthia Brian, has been chosen to be the Voice of Integrity.  A CD and tape cassette will be sold benefiting various charities that serve women, including Be the Star You Are!™ For more information visit the web-site http:// www.ReallyAmazingWoman.com.  The site provides an opportunity for women to enter their own really amazing woman stories.  Celebrate your uniqueness; all women have the potential to be amazing women.

On Friday, March 16, Tony Robbins will be presenting his Fire Walk Seminar in San Mateo, California.  Cynthia Brian has been invited to say a few words and to autograph Chicken Soup for the Gardener's Soul books.  Loren Slocum, who is the Voice of Love, in the Amazing Woman's Celebration will also speak and be available to sign her book, No Greater Love.  Call our office for more details, or visit the website for more details.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

In order to make a difference in communities, our country, and our world, we need your support.  Financial contributions assist Be the Star You Are!™ in its mission to provide, promote, and distribute positive message programming to groups in need of hope, inspiration, and tools for daily living.

Our number one need at this time is DOLLARS.  It costs an enormous amount of money to keep our offices open and operating and to facilitate the free services we offer.  Please take a moment to write us a check. Sharing Your Wealth...it's a time for giving

Here is a convenient tax-effective strategy for supporting Be the Star You Are!™.  Use a Charitable Gift account through a brokerage firm such as Charles Schwab, or Fidelity.  Here's how it works:

Contact the brokerage firm of your choice and ask about their Charitable Giving Account.  Each firm has a special name for their charity account but they are basically set up the same as an independent, nonprofit charity, earning the donor immediate tax deductions.  Choose the investment pool you are interested in such as growth index, balanced index or gift preservation where the assets appreciate tax free. 

Advise the fund that you want to nominate Be the Star You Are!™ as the beneficiary of your contribution.  The fund then ensures that the charity is registered as an IRS-qualified non profit organization (which we are).  Once that process is complete, the fund sends the charity a check.  Donors can remain anonymous, or the fund will provide their names to us.  Donors can also ask the fund to direct their grant towards a particular project or division of our charity.  For example, if you wanted to fund our radio program, you could direct your dollars to go to that endeavor, or if you wanted to fund the distribution of books. Fund donors benefit by the ability to give more with contributions growing tax-free, so you have more money to grand.  If you are in the 39.6% tax bracket, a $10,0000 contribution costs you only $6,040 after taxes.  In the 36% and 31% brackets, a donor would pay $6,400 and $6,900 respectively for that same post-tax donation.  Your contributions to the charitable gift account is tax deductible in the year you make them. You also pay no capital-gains tax on appreciated securities that you donate to a charitable gift account and you also reduce the amount of holdings in your estate as money in a gift account are not part of your estate, therefore your heirs won't have to pay tax on them.   For more information about charitable gift accounts, call our office at 877-944-STAR or your favorite broker.  Charles Schwab is 800-746-216 and Fidelity is 800-544-7272.
