Diplomacy and Empathy

“Alone we can do so little, together, we can do so much”

  • Helen Keller

Host Maggie Campione talks about diplomacy and believes that there has never been a better, or worse, time to love politics. In the midst of political divide in our country, a global pandemic, a new administration, and the capitol riots that happened two short weeks ago, there are so many problems in our country that tensions are high and people are equipped with sources to have debates with family, friends, or acquaintances alike. She and co-host Andrea Smith interview former senior attorney adviser with the Justice Department, Katharine Manning discussing diplomacy and empathy in the workplace. Her book, The Empathetic Workplace teaches readers the five steps to respond to trauma at work. Andrea rounds out the hour with her insight on peace, sovereignty, justice, and international affairs. This is a fascinating hour of critical importance offering truth and information in today’s political climate.

Bio: Katharine Manning has over 25 years’ experience training and consulting on trauma and victimization. As a senior attorney adviser with the Justice Department, for 15 years she counseled on victim rights in high-profile cases like the Boston Marathon bombing and the case against Olympic Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. Now president of Blackbird, Manning helps organizations prepare for and respond to the challenges they face involving employees and members of the public in trauma. She has trained thousands on compliance with their responsibilities to victims, and she teaches a course on victim rights at American University. Prior to her government service, Manning was an attorney in private practice representing Fortune 500 companies in class actions, insurance, and media cases.
