In this show, host Joven Hundal deals with the topics of Independence as well as Summer to celebrate both the beginning of summer as well as the Fourth of July. Joven starts the show by reading a chapter from one of Be the Star You Are's anthologies. The chapter is by Express Yourself! producer Cynthia Brian and explores her journey to find the true meaning of freedom and independence as she goes behind the Iron Curtain for months in the USSR, Latvia, and Poland. Next, Joven interviews authors Helga Hedgewalker and Estelle Daniels, who have come out with the book Color a Magic Spell: 26 Picture Spells to Color and Manifest. They talk about what exactly magic and spells are, how similar they are to positive thinking and reinforcement, and how to best tailor your experience with their coloring book to improve your well-being. Finally, reporter Caitlin Sim brings back her segment Ode to Literature where she talks about the classic novel Their Eyes were Watching God. She discusses the themes behind the novel, the novel's relevance today, and the context in which it was first published.
Bios
Helga Hedgewalker is a visionary artist, Gardnerian High Priestess, and Witch with decades of professional experience in print design, illustration, book design, package design, web graphics, and advertising. She is a founding member of the Minneapolis Collective of Pagan Artists, and co-owner of The Spirit Parlour, a shop and blog of magic, mysticism, and spirituality that can be found at SpiritParlour.com.
In her spare time Helga works in large-scale painting on canvas, digital collage, costuming, and designing coloring books. Her recent works can be seen at HelgaHedgewalker.com. She also loves creating ritual tools, making seasonal crafts, and swimming. Someday she plans to become a mermaid and swim far away...
Estelle Daniels is the author of Astrologickal Magick (Weiser, 1995), a guide to timing your life using astrology, and co-author of Pocket Guide to Wicca (Crossing Press, 1998) and Essential Wicca (Crossing Press, 2001), books on the religion and practice of Wicca, written with her late spouse, Paul Tuitean. She also wrote Tarot Lore and Other B.S. (Jester Studio Press, 2014), Breaking the Rules Tarot: The Book of Interpretations (Jester Studio Press, 2016), and Practical Tylering: A Field Magick Manual (Jester Studio Press, 2017). She co-designed Breaking the Rules Tarot Deck with Peggy McDowell (Jester Studio Press, 2016).
