Kindness, Poetry, and Host Reunion

With two of our former longtime hosts, Henna Hundal and Katelyn Darrow back on this program to discuss kindness with Kenneth Jeon, a fun family reunion atmosphere permeates. Henna has recently graduated from Harvard, Katelyn is beginning her senior year at UCLA, and Kenneth is in the process of writing college applications in his final high school year. Katelyn reads her very moving chapter, The Gift of Kindness from the book Be the Star You Are! Millennials to Boomers Celebrating Gifts of Positive Voices in a Changing Digital World and gives us a glimpse of her time working empowering teen girls in Japan this past summer. Kenneth and Henna then interview twenty-one year old poet, Katherine A. Martinez, who wants to awaken others to their own inner power to accomplish their dreams through her book of poetry, The Awakening of the Subtle Flower. She stated, “the ability to be transparent allows us to bloom.” Katherine reads one of her intimate poems from her book. Kindness is about the small moments of listening, stopping, caring, and being in the moment.

Bio on Katherine A. Martinez:

Born in El Salvador yet raised in California, her family moved to the United States when she was about 2-years-old. Now at 21, Katherine A. Martinez, is bringing her light and passion to people’s lives through her personal book, poetry and be being her authentic self. She began performing live poetry to audiences in 2017. Her brand, A Flower Bloomed, is a metaphor for seeing her life as a flower. This idea gave her life a new meaning and shifted her perspective to welcoming all obstacles as great lessons. From this realization, she began writing her first book, The Awakening of the Subtle Flower. She believes if the world will do what they love, it will bring more love, peace and understanding to the world. She wants to change human beings into realizing their full potential by awakening their own inner power. From Katherine’s book and merchandise, she hopes to instill her brand’s message as a cry for self-love for people to be authentic, raw, open, and vulnerable to ultimately believe in their worth and potential. As she has stated, “the ability to be transparent allows us to bloom.” She hopes to continue to inspire people with her light to help make others light shine brighter. Katherine will soon be releasing her podcast series around her idea of “A Flower Bloomed” titled, Fuel + Bloom, where she will be partaking in raw, authentic conversations to fuel your mind so you may bloom for the rest of your life.
