There are many heroes amongst us, those who go above and beyond to make this world a better place for others. Besides expressing appreciation for the health heroes on the front lines, radio host Siri Phaneendra interviews pharmacists, authors, and educators Drs. Mary Choy and Michele Kaufman from New York City to discuss the power of reading, networking, and careers. Their love of teaching, writing, and helping others led them to publish their first book, a healthcare career guide for youth, aptly titled, “Healthcare Heroes: The Medical Careers Guide.” The duo tells us what it’s like to work in the healthcare profession and offer insights for youth to set personal goals that will benefit them for their future and to empower our youth for success.
The Medical Careers Guide provides expert insights and strategies to help readers find their best career path in healthcare...it's like having a personal career panel of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, emergency medical technician, biomedical engineer, art/music therapists, and many more. They advise taking advantage for the free virtual camps online to get more information about a career in the medical professions.
Mary Choy Bio:
Mary Choy is a doctor of pharmacy, educator, and author who lives in New York City. For over 15 years, Dr. Choy has trained countless healthcare professionals and shared her personal strategies for success at different venues throughout the United States. She is the Director of Pharmacy Practice for the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists. She has been recognized with some of the most prestigious national awards for achieving excellence and exemplary service in healthcare. She has authored numerous articles and her first book, Healthcare Heroes: The Medical Careers Guide, features inspiring stories from 28 healthcare professionals and has been called “a young adult’s personal career fair.” She loves visiting schools and presenting to kids of all ages. Michele B. Kaufman Bio:
Michele B. Kaufman is a doctor of pharmacy and medical writer who lives in New York City. She is a Pharmacist at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital Lower Manhattan, where she evaluates ordered medications to ensure patients have the best outcomes. Dr. Kaufman has authored over 300 articles and was a contributing editor for P&T and Formulary Journal for many years. She is also a patent-holder for pineapple-flavored Colyte. She is the recipient of prestigious awards for her significant contribution to clinical pharmacy practice and the medical literature. She co-authored Healthcare Heroes: The Medical Careers Guide, to demystify the diverse group of healthcare professionals who comprise the modern healthcare team.
