Whitman explains to Andrea and Katelyn that strong financial literacy can drastically improve one’s success in life and it is important to gain these financial skills at a young age. As a teen, one’s financial priorities should be establishing a Roth IRA, getting a job, and saving as much money as possible so that they can best take advantage of the power of compounding interest. Bio:
Whitman Ochiai is the creator of Money Ed, a podcast series for young people aimed at promoting financial literacy, that is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and SoundCloud. Whitman is a rising senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), where he is the Editor-in-Chief for TJ’s Podcast Network and President of TJ’s Financial Literacy Club. Whitman resides in Northern Virginia with his parents and younger sister Sophie. In his free time, Whitman enjoys tutoring unrepresented middle school students via the program LIFT, singing Italian opera, and hiking.
