Economic, social, and political conditions in his own country of Uganda made living there impossible. Yasin provides glimpse of the migrant crisis and asks us to acknowledge that migrants need to be allowed to live and work legally in a country to be productive citizens. BIO: Yasin Kakande is an International journalist, migrant activist TED Fellow and author of a new book on the historical and contemporary reasons for African immigration, Why We Are Coming. As a migrant from Uganda, first in the Middle East and now in the U.S., Kakande strives to fill in a migrant’s voice in the ongoing global debate over refugees and migrants. His previous two books The Ambitious Struggle (2013) and Slave States (2015) chronicled the abuses and exploitation of migrants, who work in the Middle East.
